Meet Dr. Roller
Dr. Roller was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated with highest honors in his undergraduate work at the University of California, where he remained for several years performing full-time research in RNA molecular genetics and the mechanisms controlling the most fundamental aspects of life. He then received his medical degree with distinction in research from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in 2006. There, he was awarded the Research to Prevent Blindness Medical Student Fellowship which supported him during a research year at UCLA’s Jules Stein Eye Institute investigating and designing genetic therapy for inherited eye diseases. He then completed a Preliminary Medicine internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Thereafter, he was honored to have been invited to join the residency program at the top-rated University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology. At Iowa, he was awarded the coveted P.J. Leinfelder Award for excellence in resident research. He continued his education at the University of Iowa with an intensive two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery under the mentorship of a diverse team of world-renowned retina specialists, gaining extensive experience in the most advanced and cutting-edge techniques and treatments in the management of conditions including ocular complications of diabetes, age-related macular degeneration, retinal detachments, vitreous degeneration, retinal vascular disease, and inherited eye diseases.
After completing his fellowship training in 2012, Dr. Roller relocated to Austin, where he practiced for ten years serving the retinal care needs of this thriving and vibrant community prior to joining Austin Retina Associates. He is dedicated to providing the most compassionate and comprehensive approach to his patients, each of whom he strives to treat as if they were a member of his own family, regardless of their socioeconomic background.
Dr. Roller has published in leading peer-reviewed research journals and lectured at both national and international retinal symposiums. When he is not involved in patient care, his primary focus is on spending time and creating cherished memories with his wife and two children. He is fluent in Brazilian Portuguese and communicates easily in Spanish.
