Meet Dr. Alabi
Dr. Rolake Alabi is the oldest of four children and grew up in England and New York after her family immigrated from Nigeria when she was a toddler. She attended Yale University, earning both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in 2010. Dr. Alabi then completed her MD and PhD training at the Cornell University and Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program in New York City. Drawn to the combination of clinical care, surgery, and cutting-edge research in ophthalmology, she pursued her residency at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Alabi has completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Duke University and is excited to be apart of the Austin Retina family.
Dr. Alabi’s areas of expertise include surgical and medical retina, and she is particularly passionate about translational research and community outreach initiatives. She speaks conversational Spanish and a bit of Yoruba, which enhances her ability to connect with a diverse range of patients.
Dr. Alabi is thrilled to join Austin Retina, drawn by the fantastic people and the culture that prioritizes compassionate and intentional patient care. She believes in the privilege of positively impacting her patients’ lives and livelihoods and aims to treat, educate, and empower her patients as she would want her own family to be treated. Her care philosophy is personalized and evidence-based, ensuring that each patient receives tailored attention.
Outside of her clinical work, Dr. Alabi enjoys traveling, photography, theater, and following Major League Baseball. She and her husband, Bolaji, are looking forward to exploring Austin’s vibrant culture and culinary scene, especially the amazing barbecue and barbecue fusion the city has to offer, as well as its music and arts scene.
